EMPOWER verkefnið miðar að því að taka á kynjamisrétti í menntun í upplýsingatækni (UT). Markmiðið er að auka áhuga og þátttöku stúlkna í upplýsingatæknigeiranum með því að innleiða tvö lykilinngrip: þjálfun í kynjafjölbreytileika fyrir kennara og fyrirmyndakynningar undir forystu farsælla kvenkyns UT-sérfræðinga.

The EMPOWER project aims to address gender disparities in ICT education through a robust experimentation approach. The primary goal is to increase girls’ interest and engagement in ICT professions by implementing two key interventions: gender diversity training for teachers and role model presentations led by successful female ICT professionals. These interventions are designed to foster an inclusive classroom environment and inspire girls to envision themselves in ICT careers.
The project employs a quasi-experimental design, utilizing control and intervention groups to evaluate the effectiveness of these initiatives within primary and secondary schools. Initially, a pilot phase will refine the intervention strategies based on preliminary feedback. Following this, a full-scale implementation will take place across 200 schools in multiple countries, with schools randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group.
Key interventions include:
- Gender Diversity Training for Teachers: Comprehensive training sessions to raise awareness of gender biases and teach gender sensitive pedagogical strategies, empowering teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages girls’ participation in ICT.
- Role Model Presentations and Activities: Organizing presentations and interactive activities led by successful female ICT professionals to inspire girls by showcasing potential career paths in ICT and success stories of women in the field.
The project’s expected results include improved gender sensitivity among teachers and increased interest and engagement in ICT among female students. Data collection will involve pre- and post-intervention assessments using surveys, observations, interviews, and analysis of student work. The involvement of national education authorities will facilitate the scalability and sustainability of the interventions, ensuring their integration into broader educational frameworks
